Carburizing pit furnace line and nitriding pit furnace sold for wind energy industry

SECO/WARWICK ThermAL has signed a contract with a Chinese-Spanish customer for delivery of a complete pit furnace line for carburizing and one pit furnace for nitriding.

The heat treatment line will be dedicated exclusively to the carburizing and nitriding of large power transmission components used in gearboxes for wind turbines. This new application in the wind energy industry establishes SECO/WARWICK ThermAL’s position as a one of the main suppliers of heat treatment solutions for the wind energy industry worldwide.

Since gearboxes are one of the most expensive, critical and important components of a wind turbine, the customer requirements to improve the gears’ quality, reliability, performance and durability are very demanding. In that regard the heat treatment line will be supplied with SECO/WARWICK ThermAL’s latest technology and services:

  • a precise control system that permits the total control of the carburizing and nitriding processes, recording of parameters and remote assistance; an excellent temperature uniformity inside the furnaces;
  • the most precise and modern instrumentation currently available;
  • high performance system for circulation of the atmosphere and circulation of the oil in tanks;
  • a safety system that exceeds the standard;
  • high performance and flexible fast charge cooling systems;
  • cost-effective method of nitriding; ZeroFlow method allows precise forming of nitrided layers with respect to the required phase structure, zone thicknesses, and hardness distribution. In addition, the nitriding furnace uses a simpler, inexpensive process adjustment and control system;
  • remote teleservice and technological support;
  • fast response service due to our company branch in China;

Technological tools as well as the assembly, commissioning, and training of the customer staff are also included in the contract.
